Can Sugar Glider Eat Crickets And Grasshoppers? Empty Can Sugar Glider Eat Crickets And Grasshoppers?

In the wild, sugar gliders eat many different things. During spring and summer, they eat lots of fruit, flowers, and insects. During winter, sugar gliders eat a lot of sap and gum from trees.

Feeding variety is important to keep nutritional imbalances at bay. Offer a mixture of protein foods (boiled chicken, turkey, eggs, plain non-fat yogurt), fruits, veggies, and insects.

Make sure that all the food is fresh and rinsed well before serving. Portion control is also a good idea. For example, if offering melon, cut a smaller piece than if you were offering sweet potato.

Gut loading and dusted with a calcium supplement are also common practices to help prevent vitamin and mineral imbalances. Using these methods ensures that the bugs your sugar glider will eat have a healthy balance of nutrients.

Lastly, if your sugar glider will be eating crickets or mealworms, always choose high-quality commercially available products. Avoid those that have been raised in corn-based bedding because they may contain a toxic mold called aflatoxin.

The best way to feed your sugar glider is by mimicking the diet they get in the wild, which consists of tree sap, gum, honeydew, and fruits. This should be balanced by providing insects, cicada, earthworms, fungi, and pollen. They should also receive fresh water at regular intervals to avoid dehydration.
